You’re Damn Right I’m Angry

I am a very proud black woman. I love my brown skin, curly hair, and beautiful culture that I hold dear to my heart. All my life I have seen beautiful, strong black women. They made up most of the village who raised me and made me the woman I am today.

Since I know a plethora of black queens, you can understand why I’m royally pissed off to see society’s label of the “angry black woman”. I’m disgusted, heartbroken and outraged by this misconstrued, totally incorrect, blatantly rude name stuck on my sisters and I by the world.

Am I the only one who has noticed this is ONLY brought up when a black woman expresses her feelings? It’s like we can’t show disdain or any negative reaction to something without “bitter” or “mad” thrown at us. No matter what we say,our emotions are downplayed as us just being “mad”. Well you know what, now I really am mad.

For those who keep saying we’re so mad and bitter,have you ever taken a look as to why we may be upset? All of social society uses us as the butt of any joke. Look up ratchet. What pops up? A black woman. Ghetto? A black woman. We’re the poster child for so called welfare queens and everything negative in the black community. Not to mention that we’re over sexualized from the time we’re able to walk.

I can’t tell you how many times creepy old men have tried to hit on an early teenage me because of my body parts that I can’t control. Are people forgetting the fact that the hair that naturally comes from our scalp has been treated like it’s the black plague except for the past few years? How we’re dehumanized more if more melanin is in your skin? How “we’re going out of style” if another race of women gets thick or can cook. Everything about being a black woman is looked down on if on us and praised on others in this world and y’all think we just mad out of nowhere?

Beyond that, this image of the “mad” black woman is erasing our voice as a whole. Our opinions and our views are being seen as less and less valuable. Younger black girls are holding in their feelings so they won’t be labeled a “B***h”. Do you see that? WE’RE TEACHING OUR GIRLS EXPRESSING YOURSELF IS BEING A B! THAT’S A PROBLEM!!! What about our boys? Watching the world and even some of us brush off black girls feelings like they’re just mad for no reason.

We are walking in a toxic cycle that needs to be broken. Stop erasing my feelings because you think I’m just mad for no reason. I’m mad because black women are being disregarded and I will happily be the “B” to rant about until something shakes. We deserve better.
